Microsoft is posing the commercials now. They just spent a ton of money so Jerry Seinfeld would promote Windows. I am not kidding.

The only reason people hate Macs is for those commercials. They're creative, but annoy the crap out of me. But what Apple does, Microsoft poses; and fails horribly. I still can't wait for MegaMan 9 on virtual console. The 8-bit NES MegaMan games were the best. I really liked the forgotten SNES "MegaMan 7" too, and it's really neat to see this:

Anyhow go check it out, they remade MM7 in the 8-bit style. It's for windows, but I've got my VMWare fusion :) I'm going to upload my own youtube video later today to help promote it a little. I was considering allowing them to host a download on metalbabble since they seem to be having bandwidth issues. (And speaking of, if you have trouble downloading it - I have a copy of the ZIP file)

the good ole day were using the ti-82 graphing calculator in math class to play tetris haha!

anyhow i've noticed that LJP crashes on occasion, it's mostly in the "launcher" when selecting files. deleting the .ini config file usually fixes it immediately for me.

LJP has crashed on only a few occasions, but it's good enough for me. NES games run perfectly fine, and Game Boy games run without lag as long as the sound is turned off. This is fine, because I'm planning on using this to play Pokemon and stuff like that at school (Only when things are really, REALLY boring.) and the last thing I need is my teacher being able to hear Mario falling off a cliff.

i had a tungsten E and a T - the only emulator I knew of then was called NesEm and it ran barely on the E, but reletively well on the T. The zire could only handle the gameboy emulator i don't remember what it was called. either way, LJP is by far the best one out there that I know of anyways. Does it ever crash for you?

Great. My Tungsten E2 has slight lag when playing Game Boy Color games with sound, and it is incapable of running SNES games entirely.

yeah snes runs great - no overclocking required. I had ff3 (6) running in that video. but yeah, plays full speed with great sound. genesis plays perfectly too, but i had to use frameskip because it's slow when set on "no frameskip"

so as far as "metalbabble" stuff i was thinking (among other things) about making a play-online type game. i usually like having an idea first but nothing's coming to me... i'm just thinking something that we can all get into together like yahtp... probably something in Silverlight since that's what my head is saturated with right now. Lastly - there is going to be more MegaMac. I don't know when, maybe not for a year, but I need to make another MegaMac. I think after I play the upcomming MegaMan 9 I'll be even more into the idea. But I love making those games... it's just a matter of finding the synergy of ideas, time, and such. I of course want to do "MegaMac X" but eh we'll see about that. Anyways, right now I'm trying to figure out somethign fun and Silverlighty.

the centro is awesome, even for verizon (because it's not crippled)

anyways it's $99 with a new contract, it's even less if you do the "new phone upgrade deal" i think it would have been $50 or something in that case but we used that credit on Amy's enV. Anyhow the $99 is with a new service contract. I *think* you're looking at like $399.99

also be careful about the data plan. BlackBerries require a special plan. You don't have to get a data plan with the Centro. The way my plan is they just charge me for whatever KB i use.. somelike like $.0025 a kb or something like that. It works out to be like an extra $8/mo if I just use it to check my email. But anyways don't let them up-sell you and you don't have to have any data plan at all (i.e. they just block it)

Again, the phone rocks. I got a 2gig micro SD which I have my roms, music, and a couple movies on. Pretty bad@$$ for a cell phone :)

i could very well be wrong, but i think that the os does a lot of the defraging on its own so i don't know what extra gain you'll get if you run a defrag some other way. also, have you tried disk first aid and all that jazz? still your best be may be trying to make the space on the drive, maybe the genious will let you back up some of the stuff on an external drive and then try it.

Hey Brian. I heard that you got a Palm Centro. I checked out your MySpace post about cool apps and downloaded LJP to my Tungsten. Really cool and useful. I'm tempted to get a Centro, but I had a quick question. What is the price without a contract and without the two-year upgrade deal? I've had my phone for around a year, but it doesn't do what I want it to. The Centro seems perfect.

You say that Boot Camp "can't get the continuous space needed to pull it off". Hopefully that means that a defragmentation can solve the problem.

for anyone else reading this who might be interested, i really if boot camp is giving you an error message that it "can't move files" or something and you have under 20gigs of space your problem is just that boot camp, or more specifically the partition resizer, can't get the continuous space needed to pull it off. if your hard drive was really in bad shape - to the point where partitions where screwed up you'd recieve in error in disk first aid. So the solution is probably to free up space on your drive and aim for a smaller windows partition. xp only needs like 2 gigs. ACTUALLY the best solution is vmware fusion or parallels.

yeah let me see your pics. it sounds like your partitioning is screwed up. have you tried using the validate and repair in disk utility? you know the genious bar is going to tell you to format and do it from scratch. honestly dude, save yourselef a ***MAJOR*** headache and just use VMWare. No partitioning, no fuss, no muss. Plus, then you can get your disk straitened out, and if you decided to do a reinstall down the road you can partition your drive then. Also, don't try and partition the disk yourself when you do the Mac OS install, let Boot camp do it. If you are against the idea of doing VMWare, your first step should be to try and repair it in disk util and then looking into disk fragmentation. And yeah, send me the screenshots.

Hey Brian; I was wondering if you could help me out with a problem concerning Boot Camp. My friend has an XP disk and offered to let me use it for Boot Camp. It's a service pack 2 full version disk; the same one that he used to run XP on his MacBook Pro. I tried using the Boot Camp Assistant, but I get a message saying that I need to use Disk Utility to format my disk as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. I opened up Disk Utility, and it said that Macintosh HD was formatted as a Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. I have pictures that I can email to you if you want (They aren't uploading to Imageshack.). Any ideas what I can do to fix it?

check out some videos on youtube. okami is a zelda-like game but it's completely rendered as japanese ink artwork. it's very beautiful. the storyline draws from japanese traditional legends and stories... but it all boils down to evil force destroying the world, etc etc

spore was one of those things that was fun for like a day or two... i don't know if it's worth windowsafying your computer over. especially with that limited demo, the full version is still to come which means they're still working on it. possible they'd get your card supported in the process. My mac mini supports Pixel Shader so I'm sure your newer MacBook does too. So anyways, maybe they'll widen their support or maybe not, and you can get Windows in the meantime. But I'm sure they won't be supporting PowerPC's anytime however!

Let me explain why Spore doesn't work on my computer. My Mac has the graphics card and stuff built into the motherboard. A month or two after I got my MacBook, Apple upgraded the MacBooks and replaced the motherboard. Spore requires the new motherboard.

Take a look at the Windows requirements. It says that computers with a built-in graphics chipset need a "Intel Integrated Chipset GMA 950". Weird, isn't it? I was wondering something; if I were to run Windows via Boot Camp, VMWare, etc., would the Windows version run on a computer that's incapable of running the Mac version? Also, if I go out to buy Windows, what version should I get? Vista sucks, but everything new requires it.

well what i mean is even though it was an original work with all those artists, it wasn't as great as the projects where they were from. and on the other hand, if you give an artist an idea and tell them to create, do they really have the full potential they have on their own? actually sometimes the most creative ideas come from limits. just look at old video games, they HAD to be creative.

one last thing - i too have this epic idea for a game in my head, but if it were to be real i'd want it to be more advanced than i am capable of producing. you know, full 3d cell shaded.... i guess i need more free time!

let me explain a little more. they had the guy who did the art in dragon quest - but it wasn't dragon quest. they had the guy who did the music for final fantasy, but it wasn't final fantasy. it was none of those things. it was a fast-food product, where the element that brought the dq and ff teams together did not exist. so... it just doesn't work.

i still say it's an art and i live it A-Z. of course IN REAL LIFE, i realize that there are HUGE teams of talented people on these projects. I always thought of what a dream team might be like. microsoft did it though with blue dragon. and i learned something from it. microsoft is so rich, they can round up the best - but although their talent will shine through, it does not have the heart and soul of a project that was formed by chance and dreams. i'm probably not explaining it correctly, but think about it!

yeah, I'd rather just design the characters, story, and over-all style of the graphics. oh, and I would want to pick out the team of people to work on it. I'm more of a comic guy/ animation fan, so I'd rather have a really talented team of people to bring my stories into games.

oh you better believe I watched it. that thing was EPIC.
you know what else is EPIC? Death Note. the main character is a psychopath who has a notebook with the power to kill people, and he considers himself to be the new God. therefore, it's EPIC.

btw, i like the name snow leopard... seems like everyone else is poking fun at it. what'd they expect? mac os x lolcat?

Random question about games; do you know of any good emulators for Mac? I have sixtyforce for N64, but that's it. Gametap was good for games, but it didn't have anything I wanted.

actually, y'know - i was kind of hoping not to go down the random crap route. i think people like... y'know... conversation. even if it's a little random. like casual. sports, government, anything. just not the "ooh waffle stuff" it's SO OLD

and speaking or heart and art, you say you want to make a game, but you don't want to do any of the hard parts? i rarely work on games with other people because i put the work in to craft my own ideas. create your art, but besides i get control freaky with my ideas and my art - which is why i end up working alone. the art's all mine. does that make any sense?

AND IT'S AWESOME. in other wii-wii news, i downloaded dr.maio online rx and pwned some random person, if you wanna play me - send on over your #. i'm sure i'll be pretty distracted with okami for a while though..

comcast does slow it down, but ONLY bit torrent uploads. in other words, if you do download things via bit torrent the worst that will happen is THAT will slow down temporarily, NOT your entire internet connection. it's very harmless, and besides bit torrent is legal. i downloaded fedora over it.

I heard that Comcast actually slows down the Internet connection of torrent users. I really don't wanna muck up my connection considering all the stuff I download. Billybob might have a copy lying around, so I'll ask him and just Boot Camp it. Additionally, how difficult is the Boot Camp process, and how long does it take to install XP?
